Ipercorpo 2017 :: Patrimonio
Ipercorpo 2017. Patrimonio/Inheritance. Why using such a dense word? How is it connected with performing arts? What is left? What is aimed to be part of the patrimony? Why?
Taking the risk to trace different routes from the usual economic system of performing arts shows. An attempt to build a community instead of continuously seeking new strategies to engage the audience. Asking to unknown people to open their house doors to strangers for a certain period of time, encountering them.
In search of families that could work, together with artists, on making their own history.
Walking through an historical boulevard discovering that the public space is no more the place where to circulate information.
To unveil a forgotten mural telling the story of the exile, launching a foregoing question that forces us to re-think the future.
To reestablish the dignity of the word “symposium” by devoting entire days to commitment.
To cross the wall of the indistinct sound, looking for the moment when the note bounces back and clashes.
Listen to the singing, coordinating the noise.
To remain still, even, then shouting out we are tired of communication acts, we truly need creative acts, a concrete way to maintain our own act of resistance to the present moment.
Imagining theaters, concert halls, art spaces, as places where to train our participation to democratic life. Among the few places where, instead of being customers or consumers, we take the risk to become citizens. To discover that the images we are trying to create are finally our self-portraits. Our identity, our own way to imagine the world, ably or not, to understand it, to love, afford, change, transmit and participate it.
Is it still possible to imagine a common self- portrait to share?

THEATRE
In a thought on heritage, performance is an indispensable reference because it is the most ancestral connection between man and his culture and identity. Ipercorpo is attentive to the contemporary but this edition is also looking for a link between memories of the past and present life, thanks to different projects. ExAtr-Lab, Family Affair and Corpo Centrale act on the territory with a strong involvement of its inhabitants; Milite Ignoto and Anarchy, first international show in the history of the festival, cross the personal and the collective memory; R.OSA and Xebeche put the attention on the body and its social role and its capacity to be a place of continuous transitions. Dance in video is a very important parallel path of the festival and this year we still have the Italian Contest La danza in 1 minuto with a new entry, Campo Largo residency project; we still have Pontus Lidberg with his masterpiece The Rain and with the Italian Première of Labyrinth Within and we’re happy to host the 3D video dance father, Billy Cowie with Tango de Soledad, T’es pas la seule and The revery alone, where audience lie on the floor looking at the ceiling.
Claudio Angelini, Valentina Bravetti, Mara Serina
MUSIC
The sound for this year edition of the festival proceeds from the concept of patrimony, focusing on the deep inner etymology of the word, meant as “the duty of the father” or even “the belongings of the father”.
An invitation to (re)build an intimate patrimony, connecting facts apparently far apart but strictly connected to the event, in its unraveling.
Choice, awareness, collection, archiving, or detachment.
How do we build our own taste? How do we relate to it?
Building it with what was immediately inherited.
Furthermore through what we betray, and so far, what we choose.
Now the chromosomal structure of listening appears in everyone of us, a personal sense of research or a passive reception of the sound and its shapes.
An experience always unique, which leaves a sediment of the patrimony and embraces the conflict.
Elisa Gandini, Davide Fabbri
ART
The three works that accompany the current edition of Ipercorpo focus on the notion of patrimony exploring its different declinations and inviting the public to search for the works in the city.
The patrimony that we want to address is in fact the cultural capital of objects and works that a city holds, as well as actions, habits, gazes and views. It indicates a work of art as well as the landscape that surruounds it, it refers to history, memory, language.
Anna Scalfi disseminated a series of marble plaques across the city, which carry the inscription ‘private landscape’, as an invitation to reappropriate non only of spaces that are not accessible to public use, but of points of views, of points for a view. Presented for the first time in 2012 as prototype and exhibited in the frame of 16 Quadriennale of Rome, the work is implemented as a collectivley implemented on going process in the city of Forlì in the occasion of Ipercorpo.
Raphael Zarka investigates sculpture as form through which intrepreting space. In this occasion, the altered replica of a minimalist sculpture by Tony Smith, placed on the central square in front of San Domenico Museum, performed by a group of skaters, is a dispositive that resematyses both site and work through its use.
Francesco Arena translates into sculpture those episodes of our history that have been silenced, forgotten or contested, reinserting them into a common and shared narrative – our patrimony.

Italian Performance Platform
Italian Performance Platform
Italian Performance Platform was funded in 2013 as an actual answer to the urgency of presenting Italian artists abroad, and it’s now a pleasant and reliable appointment for several international presenters. In five years, more than 60 directors of theaters and festivals from 14 different nationalities arrived in Forlì to join the festival and share thoughts with the artists involved, about urgent and relevant issues. This dialogue continues this year, focusing on the concept of “heritage” and deepening the relationships between artists, places and communities, sharing their experience in the new International Masterclass Scena Europa.
Masterclass Internazionale Scena Europa
Italian Performance Platform, operating successfully since 2013 with Ipercorpo Festival, boosts this year a new challenge. Thanks to the knowledges of some of the European presenter guest in Forlì, this year the festival starts an international masterclass to present lessons, case histories and good practices designed for professionals working in the organization, promotion or communication of the performing arts field. The lessons are intended also for who is interested in spreading Italian performances abroad, creating international networks and multidisciplinary strategies to engage new audiences.
